Landscaping in Imperial, CA

About twelve miles south of me, straight down the 111. Imperial has been growing as fast as anywhere in the county, so a lot of what I do here is turning a builder’s bare yard into something that survives its first summer.

New yards, and the three things they always need

Imperial tied with Brawley as the county’s fastest-growing city in 2024. That means a lot of yards here are only a season or two old, and new yards fail in predictable ways.

A lawn that will actually root

Builder lawns get laid on ground that was compacted by machinery a month earlier. The grass looks fine for a few weeks because sod arrives with its own soil, then the roots hit hardpan and stop. Breaking that up before anything goes down is the difference between a lawn and a receipt.

A timer somebody has actually set

Nearly every new build I visit has a working sprinkler system running on a factory default. It is watering the wrong amount, at the wrong time of day, on the wrong days. Setting it properly costs nothing and is usually the single biggest improvement to a new yard.

Coverage that reaches the corners

Builder systems are installed to a plan, not to your finished yard. Once the fence, the patio and the beds go in, there is almost always an arc watering concrete and a corner getting nothing. It shows up as a dead patch in July.

If your yard came with the house and you have not touched the sprinkler timer, that is where I would start, and it is the cheapest thing on the list.

Getting to you from Brawley

About twelve miles, straight down Highway 111. Imperial is the closest town to me after Brawley, which means it is easy to fit in a one-off job here rather than only serving it as part of a route. It is a short enough run that a single repair call makes sense on its own.

What I do in Imperial

All seven run in Imperial. On a newer property it is usually sod, sprinkler setup and design that come up; on anything older it tends to be lawn care and repairs. Each has its own page with the detail and the pricing.

Recent work around the Imperial Valley

Real yards I take care of. These are from across the valley rather than Imperial specifically, because I do not label customers’ properties by street.

What it costs in Imperial

Priced on the yard, not the postcode. New-build work is often quoted as one package, because the soil, the irrigation and the grass all depend on each other, but it can be phased if you would rather spread it.

Refer a friend or neighbour who books a job and your next service is 5% off. That is the only discount I run.

Questions about working in Imperial

Soil prep, then grass, then the timer. In that order. Laying sod straight onto ground the builder compacted is the most common reason a new lawn here does not last its first summer.

Almost always. The system usually works, but it is running on a factory default schedule and its coverage was planned before your fence, patio and beds existed. Both are quick to correct and both matter.

About twelve miles, straight down the 111. It is the closest town to me after Brawley, so it is an easy run even for a single job.

Yes, and for a new build that is often the sensible way to do it, since the soil work, the irrigation and the planting all interact. It can also be phased if you would rather spread the cost.

Yes. A lot of my Imperial work is in newer developments, which is why so much of this page is about new lawns rather than mature ones.
